Runnymede C.I. is hosting over 10 different Hour of Code events throughout CS Ed Week for our local feeder schools. Each teacher of the feeder school wishing to participate signs up with us online for a particular day/time. • Calgary French & International School (Calgary)
At Calgary French and International School, a critical component to the organization of our event is to ensure a balanced approach in the use of technology to teach coding and programming. As a result, we organize ten different stations into two categories, “plugged” and “unplugged”. This approach demonstrates to both students and teachers that you can learn to code without being in front of a screen. This is especially important to motivate those teachers who are less comfortable with technology. In addition, to promote communication, collaboration, problem solving skills, in French, students work in groups of two or more at each station. Furthermore, poster-boards with links to our Alberta Curriculum are put up around the room to demonstrate to teachers and parents the links between computational thinking with their in-class curriculum. We look forward to this year’s event as we will be extending our hours and inviting parents to come participate in one Hour of Code.
  • Mission Public School District (Mission)
I want to have an Hour of Code in every school in our small district this year. It's an ambitious effort, but I think it is possible.
